SCROLL TO MEET ME

Nice to meet you.

Hiker. Photographer.
Enthusiastic Eater.
Extremely Online
at 5am.

I'm Daina — a Calgary-based photographer who genuinely considers a 6am mountain hike with a camera a fantastic Saturday. My idea of a perfect day involves trail mix, good light, and a summit view that makes the whole climb feel worth it. (Spoiler: it always is.)

Alberta has the kind of scenery that makes you feel a little smug just for living here, and I plan to photograph every square kilometre of it.

When I'm not on a trail, you'll find me in Calgary hunting down whichever new restaurant or coffee shop opened this week —because good food and good photos both require the same thing: an eye for what makes a moment feel special.

At least, that's what I tell myself when I'm ordering the tasting menu.

I’m probably planning my next photo adventure

When the Camera Goes on the Charger

Hiking is my reset button. There's something about getting above the treeline — lungs burning, view absolutely unhinged — that makes everything feel very clear. I collect trails the way other people collect houseplants: enthusiastically, sometimes impractically, always with good intentions.

Between hikes I'm on a permanent mission to try new café, restaurant, and hole-in-the-wall spot Alberta and new destinations has to offer. If there's a new brunch menu, a trendy cocktail bar, or a taco spot someone mentioned once in passing, I've either already been or have a reservation. Eating well is a lifestyle, not a hobby. (Okay, it's both.)

And when I'm home? I'm in Lightroom, Photoshop, or one of approximately nine other editing programs I've convinced myself I definitely need. Put on a good playlist, open up the catalogue, and watch me spend forty minutes deciding if the shadows should be at -23 or -24. It matters. I promise it matters.

A FEW THINGS I'M CRAZY ABOUT

Inspiration lives in the everyday — a sunrise earned on a rocky trail, a goat that photobombs perfectly, or the foam art on a morning latte. This is the energy I bring to every session.

Too Many I wish I Could

TRAILS HIKED

My boots are on their third sole replacement. We don't talk about the blisters.

Thousands

SHOTS PER SESSION

You get the best 50. I lovingly looking at the other 2,000. You're welcome.

HUNGRY FOR MORE

Scouting Calgary's best new spots to eat and drink is basically unpaid journalism at this point.

Editing At Night

Not a morning person — just someone with a camera and a very strong incentive of editing.
